The history of onyx goes back as far as the breastplate of the high priest of the Israelites. Described in Exodus xxviii, 15-30, the breastplate contains onyx in the fourth row of twelve stones representing the twelve tribes Israel.

 

Originally thought to cool the ardors of love if worn around the neck, today it attributed with promoting wise decisions and building self-confidence. It is associated with the zodiac sign of Aquarius and Leo.
