Hematite The name hematite is from the Greek hamia, meaning “blood” It was worn in ancient Egypt as an amulet to stop bleeding. It was also associated with Mars, the God of War and thought to give warriors invincibility when they rubbed it on their body. Jasper In the Old Testament, jasper is described as the first stone of the foundation of the New Jerusalem.
